BrockWorks, Inc. is a custom home design and build contractor located in Smith Mountain Lake, VA, a
retirement lake/resort community in Southwestern Virginia – nearest city is Roanoke, VA.

John graduated from VPI&SU (Virginia Tech) in 1987 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and minor in
Construction Management. John started his building career as a project manager for a builder in Roanoke.
After two years, he decided to use his degree and went to work for a geotechnical engineering and materials
testing firm as Staff Engineer and then Manager – Testing construction materials (soils, concrete, etc.),
Foundation Design, Soils Analysis, etc. After two years of this work (and missing building), John decided to go
back to work for the same builder and became VP of Construction – overseeing all project management,
development, estimating and design.

John started his own business in 1994.

John was President of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders in 1999 and has been active on its board from 1994
– present, and has served as a director for the National Association of Home Builders.

John is also a musician and song-writer – singer/guitarist for several local bands.

I joined the Professional Builder’s Council, Club #37, in April 2008, after years of procrastination. I only wish I had done it so much sooner! The relationships, the ideas, the information sharing have all been incredibly beneficial to me, both professionally and personally. The ability to pick up the phone and call or send out an email with a question or a problem and receive a dozen replies in a matter of hours is PRICELESS! Joining this club, this personal “board of directors”, was the best decision I could have made for my business.
